In 1939 a family was worried
about their five-year-old daughter. Her belly had been growing for months and
started hurting. Doctors were sure that she was suffering from a tumor. But
after running tests they found out she was seven months pregnant. Six weeks
later Lina gave birth by caesarean section to a boy and became the youngest
confirmed mother in medical history. She was 5 years, 7 months, and 21 days.
Examination of the
five-year-old Medina showed that she already had developed breasts and fully
mature sexual organs from precocious puberty. She also had been having regular
menstrual periods from the age of three.
Her son, Gerardo, believed
Lina was his older sister. He was told the truth at the age of ten.
Medina has never
revealed the father of her child nor the circumstances of her impregnation.
